Hell went loose in America and who am I to comment on a racist situation in the States?

I am a white girl who grew up in America but haven’t lived there for years. The truth is I could never possibly understand the struggle black people go through on an everyday basis. I have lived a picture-perfect privileged life. This issue doesn’t affect me at all because when I see a cop I know I’m gonna be ok.

I am not the one to talk about police brutality and racial discrimination, but I am one of few who have the platform with a significant number of followers and readers. It’s up to every influencer individually to decide if, in the times of the revolution, you’re gonna share your outfit and discount codes or you’re gonna talk about the stuff that matters.

Why is it that when people say Black Lives Matter all white people hear is their life don’t? Why is no one focusing on the fact that it’s 2020 and we still need to remind people, and worst of all people in charge, not to kill black people?

If someone tells you you’re hurting them you just don’t get to tell them you’re not.

All you can do in times like these is to listen, learn, and not make it about yourself.

There are websites much more suited than mine to talk about the ways you can help the movement.

Sites like this one:

Black Lives Matter

How can you help?

Vote. (US) The first step to enacting change is having people in power that can really change the system.

Educate yourself.

Share the information. Ask yourself if you’re doing this because you care or because it’s trending and you want to show that you are one of the good guys.

Sharing a black square on your social media is a nice touch but it’s not enough when you’re doing it because everyone is doing it. Being muted doesn’t mean you stay off social media when the revolution is outside and phones are the weapons. It means you hold off posting your promoted posts till later and instead you say enough is enough.

You can’t make everyone take a public statement. Many will claim to be impartial or neutral, but deep down we all know there is no such thing as staying neutral in a situation of injustice.

Sign the petitions.

Text or call and demand justice for George Floyd. E-mail option is now available for everyone who believes police officers who murdered Goerge Floyd should be arrested. More on that HERE.

Donate.

To the victims. You know the list is long.

To the protestors. If you follow the right media you know what’s really going on these protests and why they need your help.

Here is everything you need to know if you’re participating in the protests yourself.

To the black-owned businesses.

To the organizations.

There is an incredible option I believe everyone should take part in because it literally costs you nothing.

DONATE WITH NO MONEY.

Zoe Amira, a powerful black woman created an hour-long youtube video with a bunch of paid ads. It’s a well-known fact that you can earn pretty decent money on youtube and with this video, 100% of the revenue will be donated to the organizations listed in there.

Keep it muted on the loop and do your thing whilst helping the black community. Video link HERE.

I remember the first time I actually acknowledged a black man being murdered for no other reason than being black. Ferguson 2014. His name was Mike Brown.

I remember watching the riots through my screen and thinking: “This is it, this is the moment history books gonna write about. Things will change now”.

But they didn’t. It’s been 6 years and nothing changed.

Every other day there has been a new name of a killed black person trending with a hashtag on the internet.

What makes Georges Floyd’s death turn the whole country on fire?

We’ve been witnessing black people being killed for years. What changed?

Nothing and that’s the problem.

I believe there is only so much a person can take and with everything going on this year something just snapped. We are in the middle of an ecological, and economic catastrophe. There is a worldwide pandemic going on. People are dying because someone else sneezed and spread the virus. Viruses kept spreading because people were forced to choose between the death of corona or the death of hunger because of the COVID-19 consequences.

We had people isolating and rethinking their values. Many people lost their jobs and a sense of security whilst others worked extra hard and risked their own lives to save others.

We didn’t survive all of this for black people to step outside and get killed.

It’s not enough to not be racist anymore. It’s time to be actively anti-racist.

Look where tolerating racism led us.

The fact that some people are more outranged by damaged property than murdered people speaks for itself.

Use your white privilege right.

You keep saying “It’s horrible that an innocent black man was killed, but destroying property has to stop”.

Try saying “It’s horrible that property is being destroyed, but killing innocent black men has to stop.”

You’re prioritizing the wrong part.

#BlackLivesMatter

Stay safe xo

While it is our African American friends who suffer, I can ally with them by speaking up, voting, supporting etc.

  2. Black lives matter is in the U.S a great problem but also over here in the Netherlands here are black people who died on the same way as George Floyd. So here go withe and black demonstreded. Egale rights withe man are normale people with emontion and black people to. But now is the end of discrimination, it must be to a end all over the world.
